Char and Small Island (CHI)
The char and islands area of Bangladesh cover a large part of the districts of the country spanning 3,976 sq. km. As the significant rivers are braided, they host large chars/ islands continuously flooded and eroded each year. About 8.75 million people live in these chars/ islands and experience these hazards, forcing them to live in a loop of poverty. Agriculture and livestock rearing are major livelihood activities in the chars. The coastal islands face almost all climate-induced disasters in the sea-facing locations.
