Chalan Beel & Low-lying Area of North-Western Region (CBL)

The Chalan beel and low-lying northwestern area cover 5,027 sq. km. area. This area is very low-lying and faces damage due to flood and flash floods (34%), drought (3%), lightning (17%), and extreme heat and cold waves. The area has a vulnerable population of 5.7 million. Average damages and losses in the area due to disaster were BDT 16.7 billion during 2016-2021, mainly driven by climatic stresses (BBS, 2022).
